Outfit Post: What I Wore To A Work Holiday Party

I have ADD.  So, I do a couple of things for work.

1) Have my real job as an event planner for a large company
2) My own business as a wardrobe consultant  (see here)
3) And, I sometimes help my friend Liz at the The Nouveau Romantics set up weddings!

Big, fabulous, gorgeous weddingzzzzz (!!).  Sound familiar?  It’s because they did my wedding a few months back..Insert giant grin. Anyway, when I get to work with Liz, I get to work with a large group of super talented, creative, fun, outgoing, hardworking people.  This was a party at her house/studio for 14 of our work friends.  We had lots of amazing food, fun conversation and bottles of wine disguised as fancy punch drinks.  All these folks are great cooks, have fab style and love to have fun.  It was a great time…

This is what I wore:

Dress is a vintage, black and white polka dot, shirt dress that I purchased off of Ebay.  Vintage coat is a 3/4 bell sleeved “carpet” coat that is as soft as a velvet and survived a pipe breaking in the closet of my old apartment.  I am wearing textured (although you can’t see it here) black tights, and Dolce Vida “Pilar” black suede booties from last year.  About the best thing I bought last year – I wear them all the time. I found some on Amazon…Check it.  Don’t wreck it.

Don’t be afraid of buying clothes off of Ebay.  Just get some good measurements of yourself and do it.  Best vintage on there, and I mean, THE BEST.  Here are some tips to shopping on Ebay etc from an older post.

Thanks for following me!XOXOX

Outfit Post – Preppy Military – What I wore out last night

……is that what this outfit is?  Preppy Military?   I don’t know, but at least I have reached outside my yooose (yooouse = usual : for all you non-slang, phonetic device dependent writers) of vintage/preppy/grandmother “go to” theme.

Outfit: Genetic Denim “Shane” bottoms purchased through their website, Gap button down, splater painted scarf from “Something Else” purchased at Intermix Online, Clarks Originals desert boots purchased at Whole Earth Provisions Austin, jacket is vintage and purchased at Protoype here in Austin

Perhaps it’s preppy military.  And, perhaps it is warm enough to wear to an outside party at a local restaurant/bar called Bangers.  And, comfortable enough for one to wear out on an evening when you aren’t sure how much walking one is going to do due to the fact that 9 million F1 racing fans are going to be in town eating, drinking, taking up parking spaces, and spending money in our fair city.  Read: AWESOME.  And, by the way Austin knows how to do big events and big festivals right.  ACL, SXSW, FFF…  If you are reading this and haven’t attended one of the above.  Get here in 2013!

So, the details – last night the hubs aka “darlin’ man” and I took the bus downtown to Rainey Street to support Love-A-Bull at a Pints for Pits party at the before mentioned Bangers.  Ate a veggie banger made with beets and goat cheese.  Mmmm.  And, then we took a pedi-cab over to the happenings downtown.  Where we saw some super cool cars, listened to some music – including Tejano – watched some fancy flashing lights from some temporary stages set up for race fans.

Fast, mini Mini cars on a very sophisticated track. Take that Circuit of the Americas!

We also tried to sneak past the long line at The W (pshaw!), got busted (embarASSing) doing so…yipes.  So we skulked down the street and took the party elsewhere (someplace without a line, suckas).  We got served along side some gorgeous French ladies a HUGE glass of wine at Malverde by a surly bartender.   (What was his deal?!  Gorgeous French ladies!  What could be so bad?!)  Music was buuumpin’ – DJ Chicken George kicks serious butt-ola..  We were surrounded by people having fun, dancing, and speaking with foreign accents.  It was fun!

In other news…Hubs and I decided we want to move to Europe to live before we die or get too old to walk down ancient stairways.  So there.

Vintage Shopping Trip and Brunch and Bloody Mary’s at Contigo.

It’s no secret, I love vintage clothing.  I love shopping.  Thus, I love vintage shopping.

Also, I love brunch. I love bloody Mary’s and I love the weather right now.  Got to sit outside at the fantastic Contigo yesterday morning, eat an amazing brunch, gossip with a good friend and consume a delish bloody Mary.

Then I went vintage shopping.  So, yeah – yesterday was pretty much a perfect day for me!  What a great Sunday!

Vintage clothing is often times MUCH more affordable than even the cheap chain stores.  You find one of a kind, special pieces – many handmade.  The construction is more thoughtful, and sturdy than a lot of things today.  People didn’t have thousands of tee shirts, and jeans and dresses. (financially modest)  Anyone that has lived in an old home can tell you that – no closet space!  They had a few key pieces that needed to last.  (inexpensive) And, because vintage pieces are old – the cotton is often softer, jeans are already broken in and pieces have much more character.  (budget friendly)  And, perhaps most importantly – vintage shops and boutiques are usually locally owned, mom and pop stores.

If you mix your old with new, you won’t feel quite as costume-y.

Last weekend I went to a “Yard Sale” put on by several vintage shops around town.  It was awesome. This is what I got while I was there:

This little short sleeve sweater with the CUTEST little smiley face buttons.  PS wasn’t even $10.

And, this little button down shirt.  Super soft, fitted, cute little nautical themed throw on with skinnies and topsiders.  Totally tom-boyish.  Thought it would cute under a sweater with the fly collar sticking out.. Less than $10.

Last but not least, the piece de resistance.  This gorgeous camel colored coat.  Or, is it a cape?  Cape/coat…  Honestly, I don’t know exactly what it is – but it is dressy and in perfect condition and was very cheap (less than $30).  So Grace Kelly!

Anyway..  There ya have it.  My latest vintage finds..

Happy Monday!
